If you’ve ventured down to the West Village in recent months, you would have no doubt caught a glimpse of the monster construction site commandeering the block between West 11th and 12 streets. As the signs encircling the site declare, this is The Greenwich Lane – the co-creation of FXFOWLE Architects and interior designer, Thomas O’Brien. Formally the home of St Vincent’s Hospital, this 90,000 sqaure foot lot is slowly being transformed into a ritzy residential commune comprising five condominiums and five restored townhouses.

Named in honor of Monument Lane, the stretch on which Greenwich Avenue now runs, these luxurious condominiums are being carefully crafted to capture the elegance of yesteryear with the comfort of contemporary living. Located just within the border of the Greenwich Village Historic District, the building’s designs were required to obtain approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission in order to get the green light. Construction began earlier this year and residents can expect to settle in by 2016.

The Greenwich Lane will make a truly unique addition to the neighborhood, famous for its well-preserved brownstone terraces and quaint tree-lined streets. Modern complexes such as these are far and few between in the West Village and it’s precisely for this reason that The Greenwich Lane’s two hundred condominiums are in hot demand. As far as amenities go, The Greenwich Lane ticks all the boxes. In addition to the stock standard facilities typical of most modern condos (pool, Jacuzzi, fitness center), The Greenwich Lane will also boast a golf simulator, 21-seat cinema and guest chef’s kitchen. Then there’s the spacious interior garden, on-site garage and children’s playroom, all likely to attract keen interest from anyone looking to make the move downtown.

Such facilities are simply unheard of the West Village. But thanks to the team overseeing the project, Rudin Management, this void will soon be filled. The savvy developers have also been very clever about the timing of their project. With a growing number of startups and tech companies popping up all over downtown, The Greenwich Lane will be one of the first modern condominiums to accommodate this move. As proud CEO William Rudin told Bloomberg TV back in June, “Our location is very pivotal to the growth that’s happening in lower Manhattan.”
