We are taking a look at the current median apartment prices throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens courtesy of Zumper.com to help you narrow down what areas you might be interested in trying. We decided to highlight 4 of the areas listed to help you get a better picture of what you get for the price. Although, some of the prices might surprise you, our neighborhood expert agents are always ready to take your inquiries.

 

1. Astoria — This Queens neighborhood is one to consider when looking for an apartment in a great area close to the city. In as little as 15 minutes residents of this culturally diverse neighborhood can be in Midtown Manhattan—which is why Zumper January ChartAstoria presents itself as a very convenient area for commuters. The prices are still lower than Manhattan with the median price for a one-bedroom running about $1,850. Astoria positions itself as a great alternative for New Yorkers looking to move into a rather trendy neighborhood. It’s known for its vast array of culinary delicacies, and offers plenty of bakeries, much on the line of Gian Piero Bakery, and dining spots like Taverna Kyclades. There are also several well-known retailers that have opened up in Astoria partnering with new developments and major renovations of nostalgic buildings, which have also attracted buyers to the area, seeking to take advantage of one bedrooms going for $199,000.

 

2. Greenpoint — Bordered by Bushwick and Williamsburg, this once-industrial neighborhood has in recent years become one of the new trendy areas in Brooklyn. Praised for its restaurants and vegan eateries, Greenpoint also offers gorgeous parks, such as McGolrick and Newton Creek, which has been cleaned up by the city to create a serene getaway right by the water and has a footbridge to Queens. There are some independent clothing stores along Franklin Avenue, but the main draw is the apartments, including the soon-to-be-opened 250N10 rental building on N. 10th and Roebling Streets. The nearly completed six-story luxury building featuring a glass façade is scheduled to open next month and will offer its residents a 24-hour-attended lobby, café with coffee bar, and gym.

Zumper January Chart 23. Long Island City — Most recently mentioned in the news for its still-under-construction 21-story luxury tower, which added splashy red terraces to its renderings that make it stand out from the booming construction crowd that has hit New York City. With median rents starting at $2,000 a month, this Queens neighborhood is a delightful collaboration of avant-garde denizens and city commuters from the Midtown and the Upper East Side sections of Manhattan right across the river. Once an industrial neighborhood, and at one time an independent city within New York, this huge stretch of Queens is comprised of several neighborhoods, including Sunnyside, Hunters Point, and Astoria. Quite diverse, and filled with a plethora of artists and artistic outlets, this neighborhood is most notable for its television and film production company, Silvercup Studios. This company has created countless TV shows and movies, from AMC’s “Mad Men” to “Analyze That” with Robert DeNiro.

 

4. Williamsburg — Affectionately referred to as “Billyburg,” this Brooklyn neighborhood is currently one of the most popular areas in New York City. Williamsburg has been attracting attention lately for being diverse, artistic, fresh, and just down-right cool. Brimming with independent shops and restaurants, the area is delightfully heavy on the artistic note. There have been notable openings in recent years, such as the innovative Nitehawk Cinema, a hybrid movie theater/restaurant, and SmorgasBurg, a fun food flea market that runs rain or shine every weekend on the Williamsburg waterfront. There are also luxury towers along the waterfront with condos and co-ops with great views of the river, offering median $2,700-a-month units throughout the area.
